Requirements

There are three main requirements to run an Aestiva Power Office solution:

    1. You need a copy of Aestiva Array for your server platform.
    1. (Aestiva Array is included with purchase)

    2. You need a Web server account.

    3. You need an active cgi-bin in the account.

Aestiva Power Office runs on Aestiva Array, so the requirements to run your Power Office solution are the requirements to run Aestiva Array.

Aestiva Array runs on in-house servers, shared hosting accounts, and co-located servers. Requirements for operating on intranets, shared accounts, and co-located (dedicated) servers are described below.

OPERATING AESTIVA ARRAY ON INTRANETS
If you are running your own computers (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows 2003, etc) then you can run Aestiva Array.

You will need a Web server. Use any CGI 1.1 compliant Web server (such as Apache, or IIS). Once your Web server is set up you can install Aestiva Array. No database engine is needed since Aestiva Array includes a maintenance-free, high-performance database engine.

If you would like to access Array data with an external database such as DB2 or MS SQL, then multiple methods are provided including (i) a utility called "Exchanger" (included with Power Office) that can schedule the transfer of data out of the databases into stanadard CSV files and (ii) programming instructions that can access the Array databases.

Once Array is installed other components are added using the browser-interface built into Array.

No additional software or hardware is needed. No additional RAM is needed.

OPERATING AESTIVA ARRAY ON SHARED ACCOUNTS
If you wish to run Aestiva Expense Report on a shared account at a hosting provider that provides CGI access, then you can run it.

WARNING: SOME HOSTING PROVIDERS WHO ADVERTISE CGI ACCESS DON'T ALLOW BINARY PROGRAMS TO RUN OUT OF THEIR CGI-BIN FOLDERS. THE COMMON GATEWAY INTERFACE (CGI) IS THE WEB STANDARD FOR RUNNING BINARY PROGRAMS SO THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING, BUT IT DOES OCCUR. IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHETHER YOUR HOST PROVIDES CGI ACCESS, FEEL FREE TO HAVE AESTIVA ASK FOR YOU.

Installing Aestiva Array does not require any server configuration and in general, no communication or support from your server administrator or hosting provider.

ABOUT RAM
Recommended minimum RAM on a stand-alone or hosted server is 1 Gigabyte but the software will run with much lower amounts of RAM.

ABOUT HARD-DISK SPACE
We recommend you reserve 100 megabytes of space for the engine. See footprint to estimate hard disk space needed to run the entire Aestiva Power Office application.

HOSTING PROVIDERS
Aestiva Array has built-in cgiwrap to protect hosting providers, built-in security so users of Power Office cannot access other parts of the web server, and low CPU overhead to ensure CPU resources are not overused.

OPERATING AESTIVA ARRAY ON CO-LOCATED WEB SERVERS
If you are running a co-located Web server then you can operate Aestiva Array.

Most co-located Web servers come pre-installed with an active CGI 1.1 compliant web server, such as Apache or IIS. No additional software or hardware is needed. No additional RAM is needed to operate Aestiva Array.
